Three Gonorrhea Complications That Warrant Immediate Attention And Treatment

Everyone is advised to seek medical attention and treatment immediately at the first sign of gonorrhea, even if it is merely a suspicion and there is nothing conclusive yet that establishes that fact. People are also advised to seek medical attention if they believe they have been exposed to it, the lack of symptoms appearing in them personally notwithstanding. Seeking medical treatment is a must, and it must be done immediately, too. After all, gonorrhea is known to cause so many complications in the future. If the disease becomes untreated for a while, there are possible complications and they could get quite scary, too. Let us take a look at the three complications that terrify most people.
Infertility is the top complication of gonorrhea that many people would not want to experience. If they fail to seek treatment for the disease immediately, they will surely become infertile. Since they could not reproduce, we are looking at the potential loss or end of lineages. Men and women are both vulnerable to this fate. Popular belief is that complications in gonorrhea can cause infertility only among women. That would be a wrong assumption to make since it could happen to men, too. Men are actually facing greater risks of being infertile and finding no cure for it than women do. Briefly stated, the exact mechanism through which this disease (if untreated) leads to infertility in men is where it causes the condition known as epididymitis. The mechanism through which the same disease (if untreated) leads to infertility in women is where it causes pelvic inflammation disorder (PID). Psychologically, people who are infertile will have a hard time accepting the fact that they will never have kids, especially if they always meet children along the way. Treatments for infertility are sought at great cost. But most cases are hopeless, considering the fact that it is already too late to have these interventions and cure the infertility.

Sexually transmitted diseases and even HIV/AIDS are becoming more prevalent and people who fail to have their gonorrhea treated immediately becomes more vulnerable to them. If you try to compare the effects of the gonorrhea condition to the potential effects of the STDs, you will find that the latter would be more terrifying. Becoming infertile due to these STDs would actually be a minor effect; worst case scenario: the patient could die.

It is highly possible for a systemic disease to arise from a case of gonorrhea. If it is untreated the joints could get affected. The microorganisms causing gonorrhea is left unattended, they could even reach as far as the blood stream. Getting into the bloodstream would only be the beginning because they could then move on to other parts of the body. You will find some nasty rash starting to form. Another result can be the (potentially debilitating) swelling and stiffness of joints. It may lead to a simple to severe case of fever. If left unattended for too long, the person could even die from it.
